I am a fan of the radio show, A Way with Words<\/a>. \u00a0Over the weekend, I ran across a clip on their website<\/a> discussing an experiment <\/a>run by a company in London to demonstrate the risks of using public WiFi.\u00a0 The company set up a hotspot that offered free service to anyone who accepted a user agreement.\u00a0 Buried in the agreement was what the company calls a \u201cHerod Clause,\u201d a promise by the user to assign his or her first-born child to the company for all eternity. Six people accepted the agreement.\u00a0 Presumably those people fell into one of three categories:<\/p>\n

  1. People with\u00a0no children and no intention of ever having any children.<\/li>\n
  2. Lawyers who knew that the clause would be unenforceable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
